  • Social – Leave, interview facility, communication facility etc.
  • Vocational – In Central Prisons / Open Prisons, training is imparted in Prison Manufacturies. Viz. Carpentary, Smithy, Weaving, Tailoring, Masonary, Soap Making, sawing, Book binding, Printing, etc.
Importance is given to agrarian operations viz. Paddy, Tapioca, Vegetables, Plantains, Rubber, Coconut, Cashew nut, Mulberry.In the Open Prison Nettukaltheri, 120 Acres of tapped Rubber Plantations are there. This Plantation is the efforts of the inmates of the prison right from preparation of the land. Diary Farm and Goat Farm are coming up in a big way at Open Prison, Nettukaltheri, Central Prison, Viyyur and Thiruvananthapuram. Sericulture unit is properly functioning at Central Prison, Kannur.
  • Educational – Teachers are appointed to impart education to interested prisoners to the level they want.
Library facilities, computer education, and continuing education in tie up with IGNOU and other various Universities are also available.
  • Spiritual – Moral instructions related to all religions and yoga classes to needy inmates without any compulsion.
  • Discipline – Institution itself makes the inmates disciplined.
  • Cultural – Organising cultural functions on important days to develop inter / intra personal relations among inmates.
  • Motivational – Remission is being given to good conduct and good work. Premature release is being ordered to well behaved prisoners who complete a certain period of confinement, as may be fixed by Government from time to time
